In her interview, Mrs. Juanita Owens Penn-Wyatt shares many stories about the Petersburg public school system, her training and involvement in non-violent protests and the start of the Petersburg Improvement Association. Taking pride in her family, Mrs. Wyatt tells of her family supporting each other during the movement and of her father being the first African American on the city council in Petersburg since the Reconstruction.
